The Mount Maculot
Mount Maculot is one of the few mountains when it comes to climbing and one of the visited mountains especially during weekends and holy week. There are many mountaineers or travelers like us who love to explore this place. It was not difficult for us to get to this place as it was just close to Metro Manila. Mount Maculot is located in the town of Cuenca in Batangas province. So we challenged ourselves to climb this mountain. It has three options for climbing, first is the Mt. Maculot - Rockies with 706+ MASL "miles above sea level", the second is their Mt. Maculot - Summit with 930 MASL and the last their Mt. Maculot - Grotto with 510 MASL.
This is the first time I have heard this Mountain of Maculot. Because I can almost hear the famous mountains and climbed by the mountaineers and the travelers are the mountains that are almost open to social media and other news platforms. So when my friend James asked me if I would like to go climb up a mountain to Mount Maculot I would not hesitate to go along because I knew it was my chance to climb in a very high mountain and I know that it's a great experience for me. Jean the girlfriend of James also included in this trip. Jean and James were also with me when we are on our tour to Marinduque last 2018 and with us are there co-workers at the company and one of my best friends.

Town of Cuenca Starting Point
We arrived at the Town of Cuenca at around 3:00 am so we have time to prepare ourselves for a healthy breakfast meal with egg, garlic rice, pork chop, and banana that is high in protein and carbs which most important when we need to climb in the mountain of Cuenca and to strengthen our bones. We also buy beverages such as electrolyte drinks and natural water and protein bars at the nearby convenience stores. We also bring a rice meal with pork adobo to eat so that when we reached the campsite we had time to eat and prepare ourselves for the Summit climb.

It was about four o'clock in the morning when we embarked on our climbing journey. We first asked and pray to our Lord Savior for a blessing to give us guidance for climbing the mountain and we also prepared our bones and bodies through stretching. It was still dark when we start our journey and our tour guide said that we were the first ones to climb that day, so we prepared our hiking gear.

The Rockies - 706+ MASL
I have been climbing mountains but not like Mount Maculot, so you have to prepare your body for the intense breathing that is required. It was difficult for us as the first-timer to climb this highest mountain. Fortunately, there were 7 waiting stations available for our first destination to Mt. Maculot - Rockies and each station have prepared chairs and food stores or "sari-sari store" for climbers. Extreme caution is also required as you have access to cliffs that are the most dangerous path and some trees need not be handled because they have thorns. Most roads are slippery, too.
We reached Mt. Maculot - the Rockies around 6:00 am and the sunset has almost arrived. At Mt. Maculot - the Rockies you can see the expansive cloud above and there you can see the Mt. Makiling, Mt. Batulao, Taal Lake, Taal Volcano, Tagaytay City and the whole area of Cuenca. Our tour guide also noted that during the Spanish period there were mountain dwellings and they made it a fort. So it's time to take some beautiful pictures of this highest mountain and also please guys take care of taking photos.
The Campsite
The campsite is the area where you can set up your tent and for those who want to spend the overnight and to experience the sunrise. When we arrived at the campsite you could see the greenery of the whole area, as our tour guide said the people who organized the tour will be able to clean and pulled all the grasses during the holy week, weekends or holidays where many people want to climb the mountain. Food stalls and huts are available in the area. We stopped for a few minutes at the Campsite of Mt. Maculot to relax and eat.
The Summit - 930 MASL
After resting we went straight to Mt. Maculot - the summit and it took us about half an hour. From campsite to halfway to Mt. Maculot - The summit is quite flat so our feet are quite relaxing as well. Extreme precautions are also needed to reach Mt. Maculot - Summit. So when we reached the Summit we also took a few minutes before heading down to the last station in the Grotto. At the top, you will experience 360-degree angles throughout Lipa, Cuenca, Lemery, Batangas and other surrounding areas. Climbers are advised not to spread garbage throughout the Mt. Maculot.
The Grotto
As we made our way down from the Summit to the Grotto we found it much more difficult to get down because you had to repel and extra care for the thorny trees and unexpected rock falls need to be careful. Fortunately, we had no experience with falling rocks. But caution is needed on those who want to climb.
We reached Mt. Maculot - Grotto at around 9:30 am. Here at their Grotto Site, there are also vendors selling foods to eat so we bought banana cue and fresh coconut water. We also tasted one of the Batangeños pride is their Café Barako which is locally made.
G2B Lomi House
After a tough climb experience, we stop at there resting area and there is a comfortable bathroom to clean your body at a cost of P50.00 and souvenirs items are available for purchase. Our tour guide also took us to the most famous Lomi House which is one of the Batangeño's proudest. Here we tasted a big bowl of "Pancit Lomi" filled with complete ingredients such as boiled egg, pork chicharrón, and sliced pork to fill our empty stomach and we were very satisfied with our food.
